I have to be honest, the cover of Witch Song by Amber Argyle looks so pretty. Look at the girl's eyes, aren't they mesmerizing? This time, I am really guilty for judging the book by its cover. Another reason is, I read many good reviews about the book, so I decided to give it a try.
The story is a page-turner, which is a good thing. The author describes every event and scenes in a good detail without being overboard. The story itself is (for me) a real fresh idea. When someone says "witch", the first thing that comes to my mind is the magic wand. Not in this book! The witches here are great singers. Their beautiful voices enchant the nature, that's how the magic works. I've never heard about a witch who sings a song before, not until I read Witch Song.
It began when Brusenna's (or Senna) mother was captured by the Dark Witch. Senna, who was only 15, had to try her best to free her mother by defeating the enemy as well. The story went very smooth, it took me to the last page within no time!
Honestly, I think the story is good enough. What I found a bit annoying is the fact that it was lack of strong characters. I mean, I cannot differ the characters in the story by their personality. When reading to the dialogue, I couldn't differ who spoke what because the tone were the same. This book really need something to get the people in it stand out from the others. As far as I can tell, I only noticed one character who was quite different with the others and I'm not going to tell you which because it would ruin the entire reading experience ;)
The other thing is, the author tend to skip the time. I was reading from the same page when I found out that the scene had been going on for three days! I mean, wow! can one really do that in writing stories? I as the reader was quite confused.
As for the rating, I give it 4. There are some confusing part, but still it's s nice story to read.
