The Best of Me is the newest book of Nicholas Sparks who is known as a romance master. This is my first time reading book of his as I wasn't really into romance however recently I don't really care about genres because as long as the story is enjoyable, who cares which genre it belongs.
The Best of Me is a story of a high school sweetheart who were totally in love with each other. Since things didn't always go smoothly, they ended up separated. The girl went to college and the guy lived his life the way he usually did. Alright, to tell you the truth, this is the slowest story I have ever read! I had to put it down for thousand times because I kept on turning the pages just to found that nothing happened. There are too many repetitive scene in this book. For example, the guy and the girl always ended up in the living room, drinking wine and chat! I've never been to Oriental or USA (from the story, looks like Oriental is a small town), but come on, does it have to be always in the living room? I believe there are interesting places in Oriental, for God's sake!
You know, what kept me going was actually the antagonists. They seem to "color" the story because the protagonists were so boring. The Best of Me is also full of back story which in my opinion, a little too much. There are many unnecessary details that make book even slower. When I finally got to the last page, I cannot tell you how relieved I was. Speaking of which, the ending is also very crystal clear predictable! However, there lies my favorite quote of the book:
I gave you the best of me, he’d told her once,
Yes, there's a comma there, but I don't spoil it for you *giggles* and that particular sentence at least make me not to hate the book so much. As for the rating, 2! Are you a fan of Nicholas Sparks? Do you enjoy reading romance?
